April was a great month for Yoga enthusiasts at Samsara. We had 2 different groups who held retreats in Negril, enjoying early morning practice under the vast Jamaican sky on Samsara’s cliffs, led respectively by Tamara Tomasz of Canada, and Terence Ollivierra of USA. It was a beautiful sight to see two outstanding teachers lead their eager participants on Samsara’s peaceful and spacious cliffs. The amazing advanced poses attest to their dedication and years of learning. Here is a little information about these wonderful teachers who we hope will make their retreats at our Negril resorts an annual event!
Tamara Tomasz has dedicated her life to practicing and teaching Yoga. Tamara started basking under the sun of Yoga in the early nineties, at which time she was a competitive horseback rider and skater. Upon completing her BA in Anthropology and Native Studies, she lived and studied Yoga in India for three years studying with wonderful teachers including Sri K Pattabhi Jois, Sri Iyengar, Sharat Ragaswamy, Sri V. Sheshadri, Richard Freeman and David & Doug Swenson. Tamara spent several years teaching Yoga and conducting teacher training programs in Asia, including Japan, Taiwan and India. She currently owns the Yoga Station with her husband Tomasz in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada.
Terence Ollivierra is an Iyengar certified teacher. He delights in the study of Patanjali’s Yoga sutras and the Bhagavad Gita and has been practicing for half of his life. Beginning in his late teens, his only teacher for 8 years was B.K.S. Iyengar’s Light on Yoga. The years that followed were of intensive consistent practice of Sivananda Yoga, and then Astanga Yoga until he met his primary teacher John Schumacher, who brought Terence back to his roots of Iyengar Yoga. This journey has given him the capacity to bring detailed alignment adjustments and stability to the Vinyasa practice, minimizing injury and optimizing efficiency of movement and action in asana.
